West Virginia / Hatfield McCoy
|
The Hatfield McCoy is a great riding area. There are many miles of trails spread
over three different riding areas. To ride this area you must buy a permit. One day is $19, 3-7 is $37 and $26.50 for in state annual permit or $79.50 for out of state annual permit. Due to time we were only able to ride the Bear Wallow and Buffalo
Mountain trails. The Bear Wallow Trials were a fun area to ride. The area had all type of trails from fast
wider service trails to tighter ATV trails to fun and tight Motorcycle trails. If your are
feeling brave or stupid there was a huge hill climb up a pile of coal. There we people trying
to get up it but most did not make it and sank in the loose coal.
One the second day we road the Buffalo Mountain trails and I personally liked this trail system
better because you were able to ride into town. When we road these trails it was raining hard
the entire time and this made the easy trails difficult in the up and down hill sections because
the ground was so slick.

I don't have any picture due to the rain. However, this area is a riding area only and not
like the trails in Colorado or Tellico were there are many scenic areas. There was a camping
area at the Bear Wallow trail head. This was a great camping area is you like camping in the
scenic trailer park, but I did not like it and give this place a 1 out of 5 on my camping
rankings, but at least it was at the trail head.
Directions: Please visit the official Hatfield McCoy
trail page for directions. I can tell you that it is best to get to the area is Hwy 119 and not Hwy 52.
